Issue  #2 / February 2019
Dear Readers,

2018 - the first full year of Drive Sustainability - has been the year of standardization to set the basis for our future work and transition to the partnership model.

2019 is the year of consolidation.

This refers to greater integration across the different working streams, for instance a more integrated approach to supplier capacity building and collective work on raw materials. Consolidation is also our focus on a strategic level, as we are developing the Drive Sustainability 2030 Strategy and Roadmap together with our stakeholders. The launch is to be expected in early 2020.

To stay updated on upcoming events, current activities and receive our progress report, please follow us on drivesustainability.org. To share your comments and learnings please write us at info@drivesustainability.org.

We wish you a driven year 2019!

BUILDING CAPACITY ON ESG RISKS ALONG MINERALS SUPPLY CHAINS

In 2018, Drive Sustainability and the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) jointly published Material Change, a study that gathers, analyses and presents publicly available information on a set of materials commonly used in the automotive and electronics industries.

For 2019, the two organisations have agreed to align further in order to promote the use of shared tools as well as to strengthen capacity building for responsible sourcing practices along the mineral supply chain.

The RMI and Drive Sustainability are looking to leverage the Risk Readiness Assessment (RRA) platform to strengthen training and capacity building.

DRIVING SUSTAINABILITY BEYOND TIER 1 IN CHINA:
AWARENSS RAISING AND LOALIZATION ACTIVITIES REMAIN PRIORITIES

Supply chain sustainability depends on the collaboration and engagement of the entire supply chain.

On November 06, the partners of Drive Sustainability China and a group of 25 Tier 1 suppliers discussed how to “collaboratively advance sustainability beyond Tier 1 in China” at the OEM-Supplier Exchange meeting in Shanghai.

Key findings include a continued need for awareness raising and knowledge exchange, the importance of localizing compliance tools and increase the reach of Drive Sustainability's capacity building activities.

The following recommendations were integrated in the Group’s 2019 activity plan.

  • Hosting of two events focused on awareness raising and knowledge exchange
  • Increase dialogue with local stakeholders and facilitate access to knowledge resources e.g. through Drive Sustainability Website
  • Develop a localized risk assessment tool
  • Work towards further deploying Drive Sustainability tools e.g. trainings in China
