Dear Readers,

We started and will close the year 2021 under the motto of building and consolidating collaborations - the backbone of Drive Sustainability's tools launched this year.

In October, Drive Sustainability partners jointly launched the Raw Material Outlook, a new platform dedicated to managing and mitigating the Human Rights violations and the ESG impacts of materials used in the automotive value chain.

2021 marks the first year of our supplier engagement program Drive+. Thanks to the program, Drive Sustainability and Drive+ partners engage closely and nurture productive exchanges. In 2021 they did for instance during the in-depth workshops and consultations on the Drive Sustainability the self-assessment questionnaire (SAQ), our common direction on Carbon Neutrality and raw materials.

This year Drive Sustainability also launched its first e-learning course, now available in English, Chinese, German and Spanish. The course is hosted on the Responsible Business Alliances’ RBA Learning Academy, allowing participants to access each initiatives’ e-learning courses on one single platform.*

2022 will be an equally important year. We will work on the further expansion and launch of new tools, again based on the strong foundation of collaboration with suppliers and key stakeholders.

To stay updated on upcoming events and current activities, please follow us on drivesustainability.org. To share your comments and learnings please write us at info@drivesustainability.org.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a relaxing festive season!

The Drive Sustainability Team

* Members of Drive Sustainability, the Responsible Minerals Initiative and the Responsible Business Alliance are granted access to the respective initiatives' courses based on their membership status.

FOCUS TOPICS

Drive Sustainability’s Raw Material Outlook Goes Live

In October 2021, Drive Sustainability launched the Raw Material Outlook, a new platform dedicated to managing and mitigating the Human Rights violations and the ESG impacts of materials used in the automotive value chain. The platform, now live and accessible, covers the following materials: Aluminum/Bauxite, Graphite, Iron ore, Magnesium, Manganese, Molybdenum, Nickel, Rare Earth Elements REE, Tantalum and Zinc. Findings on these materials are publicly available and updated regularly.

The platform goes beyond the mere collection and analysis of data and provides intelligence to:

– Help users aligning with the United Nations’ Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and relevant EU policies on the Green Economy and Corporate Governance & Sustainability.

– Guide Drive Sustainability’s engagement and potential collaborative action with Drive Sustainability partners, suppliers, and other stakeholders

Drive+ Activities 2021

Drive+ is a new platform dedicated to nurture a closer collaboration between automotive tier 1 suppliers and the 11 Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of the automotive partnership Drive Sustainability. 30 automotive suppliers and 6 supplier associations have already joined Drive+ in 2021.

In 2021, the Drive+ program spanned 4 meetings with suppliers on Drive Sustainability activities, 5 consultations (Guiding Principles, Carbon Neutrality, Raw Materials and SAQ Consultation 1 and 2) and 4 thematic workshops covering the topics of traceability, the upcoming EU Due Diligence Law, as well as approaches to Carbon Footprint measurement and collaborative action for a carbon neutral automotive supply chain.

Building on the experiences from 2021, the activities in 2022 will provide more in-depth workshops, dialogues and exchanges between Drive Sustainability and Drive+ partners to tackle common challenges on supply chain sustainability.

E-Learning Course Results 2021

Since its launch in March 2021, more than 500 suppliers have completed the Drive Sustainability introductory e-learning course. The vast majority of participants would recommend the course to peers to understand better why sustainability matters to their company and what OEM expectations are.

An invitation to participate in the course is our invitation to collaborate. We recognise that suppliers are in different phases when it comes to integrating sustainability in their business practices. Nevertheless, this introductory course is directed at a broad audience, with the objective to give participants an introduction to the initiative Drive Sustainability, our mission and activities. We invite you to join this training to build a common understanding, based on which we can build future joint activities.

If invited, please join the e-learning course! Thank you for your collaboration and time. For the achievement of our mission your support is essential.

You can find further information on the e-learning participation results here.
