The battery saq
Considering the European Union’s Batteries Regulation (EU-Batt-R), Drive Sustainability initiated the development of a Battery SAQ in February 2024 to reflect and to integrate the the risk categories outlined in Annex X and the due diligence requirements of the legislation set for launch in August 2025.
The Battery SAQ builds upon Drive Sustainability’s existing SAQ framework. While SAQ primarily assesses the sustainability performance of direct suppliers, the Battery SAQ extends this assessment to include midstream and upstream suppliers.
The Battery SAQ is designed as a first-step screening tool designed to identify potential ESG risks in the supply chain and lays the groundwork for further due diligence activities, such as audits, training sessions, and on-the-ground projects.
COLLABORATION ACROSS THE SUPPLY CHAIN
*Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), in most cases, are the economic operators responsible for fulfilling the EUBR Due Diligence obligations, but all tiers can use the Battery SAQ and request it from different (sub) suppliers.
THE BENEFITS FOR SUPPLIERS
– The primary objective of the Battery SAQ is to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment to enable suppliers to collaboratively enhance human rights and environmental performance throughout the entire battery supply chain, without excluding any suppliers.
– Each OEM will incorporate this information into their own risk analysis tools to develop specific measures, such as audits, training sessions, or on-the-ground projects.
HOW IT WORKS
The Battery SAQ will have:
– Approximately 12 primary questions
– ~7 unique evidence uploads
– Significantly reduced duplication of questions/answers to reduce supplier burden
– One score combined from the relevant SAQ questions and unique Battery SAQ questions
