Developed by Drive Sustainability and implemented via SUPPLIERASSURANCE, the Battery Sustainability Assessment Questionnaire (Battery SAQ) launched in August 2025, represents a significant step forward in strengthening ESG performance and supporting compliance with the EU Batteries Regulation.
What the Battery SAQ Delivers
The Battery SAQ was designed as a practical, collaborative tool for suppliers at all tiers of the value chain, from mines to midstream processors and battery manufacturers. It offers:
- – A first-step screening tool for OEMs and suppliers to support further risk management, training, and audits
- – One shared assessment for multiple OEMs, reducing duplication of effort.
- – A combined score with SAQ 5.0, streamlining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Why It Matters
By completing the Battery SAQ, suppliers gain valuable insights into their ESG performance, receive tailored recommendations for improvement, and benefit from increased visibility with global OEMs. For OEMs, the tool provides a structured approach to identify and mitigate ESG risks in the battery supply chain.
Looking Ahead
The official launch underscored the shared commitment of the automotive sector to responsible sourcing, human rights, and environmental stewardship. Drive Sustainability will continue working closely with suppliers to build a more sustainable and transparent battery industry.
